About the NDIS

NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme and was created by the Australian government to ensure that people living with disability are better taken care of and given every opportunity in life. Since private health care can be costly, the NDIS funds disability-related supports so that everyone in our country living with physical, intellectual or functional impairments can have equal access to services that enhance their quality of life.

The NDIS offers a vast range of supports that fall into three categories: Core Supports, Capacity Building and Capital Supports. These can cover different things like an overnight nurse, a care worker, disability-friendly transport, help with joining social groups, help with finding employment, accommodation or even access to physiotherapy and a whole lot more.

NDIS Frequently Asked Questions

Are you looking for answers to specific questions about the NDIS? We help to clarify some of the most commonly asked questions. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, please feel free to contact us on

0461 326 334 and we will be happy to answer all your questions.

  • How do I apply for NDIS funding?

You can apply over the phone by dialling 1800 800 110 or you can click here for an Access Request Form. You will be asked to confirm your identity and provide proof of residence as well as proof of disability from your doctor, so have your documentation ready when applying.

  • What is the process for getting an NDIS plan?

Once your funding is approved you will have a planning conversation with the NDIS in which you will be asked about your disability, the supports you require and your life goals. The NDIS will work together with you to put a plan together. You can then start using your funding and find a suitable service provider in your area.

  • How is my funding managed?

You can choose to be self-managed (take care of all your own funding and payments), plan-managed (be managed by a plan manager) or NDIA managed (managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency who will recommend registered NDIS providers that you can choose from).

  • Do I need a support coordinator?

A support coordinator is not compulsory, but it is highly recommended, especially if you have a high intensity intellectual disability and need a little help in understanding the NDIS well enough on your own to make the relevant decisions about your plan. A support coordinator will help you to navigate the NDIS, explain difficult terms and assist you in putting together a plan that optimises your budget for the best possible outcomes depending on your goals.

  • Do I need a written service agreement?

A written service agreement is only needed for Specialist Disability Accommodation, but for regular NDIS services such as Core Supports or Capacity Building, it is not required.

  • Do I need a plan manager?

It is possible to be self-managed and have complete control and responsibility over your funds, however, a plan manager can alleviate stress and avoid inaccuracies when it comes to your billing, payments and other admin duties. They can help you keep track of your funds and send you notifications when your budget is getting low.
